Metal thefts on the rise

Lt. Mike Hopson, head of the Ennis Police Department’s criminal investigation division and EPD spokesperson, said metal over the past month caused tens of thousands of dollars stealing copper from homes, schools and churches.

Det. Sgt. Jason York said thieves had previously hit smaller churches with less attendance, which are frequently empty on days without services.
