MLK Day events planned by Unity in the Community

Martin Luther King Day events, planned by Unity in the Community of Ennis, have been announced. The art, poetry and essay contest is set for 7 p.m. Friday, January18 at the Ennis Public Library. The Power in Wellness Health Fair will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday January 19 at Jack Lummus Intermediate. And on Sunday, January 20 at a to-be-announced time and venue, the program A King Celebration ~ The Power of Love will feature guest speaker Dallas County Commissioner for District 3 John Wiley Price. Unity in the Community, co-founded in 1999 by educator Charlotte Watson, her mother Shirley Watson and aunt Patricia Wilborn, not only offers healthcare and educational assistance to youths and seniors alike, but has evolved into a non -profit, faith-based organization that promotes bonding between all races and cultures in Ennis. The impact of Unity in the Community, particularly through literary and motivational speaking contests for students, has been felt across the city and county.
