One dead in head-on collision

Police say a 58-year-old from Frost died Monday at about 5 p.m. when an 18-wheeler turned into his vehicle at FM 85 and Kaufman Street.

Teddy Rowe was driving north on S. Kaufman Street when a tractor-trailer rig turned east onto FM 85, said Lt. Mike Hopson, Ennis Police Department spokesman. With less than five feet of skid marks under the 18-wheeler’s tires, Hopson said his best theory was the driver of that 18-wheeler failed to notice Rowe’s vehicle until entirely too late to stop the crash. The rig hit Rowe’s truck almost head-on, focusing most of the impact in the driver’s side of the front end.
