Opponents of bullet train meeting Jan. 9

Area residents who oppose the proposed high-speed rail are invited to a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Marty Hiles, who has served as Ellis County commissioner of the sub-regional planning commission, said the meeting is slated for 4 p.m. at the Ennis Public Library. Following a quiet year on the subject, news that Texas Central Partners added Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane to its board of directors has generated more interest in the idea of providing an alternative for commuting between Dallas and Houston via a 200-mph bullet train. A recently released environmental study has also begun to make news. Maps for the placement of the railway, which would have no stops from Dallas until the College Station area, are planned to run through Ennis and miles of rural property and farmland.
