After serving Ellis County for 22 years as a state representative, Jim Pitts has called it a career. The Republican hosted a reception Thursday night at the Waxahachie Civic Center, where he thanked his supporters in what doubled as his farewell.

A festive crowd included family, longtime friends, staffers and a host of public servants as well as Ennis Mayor Russell Thomas and his wife Nancy. Prior to running for office, he was on the Waxahachie school board of trustees for 14 years.
