Planning for Alzheimer’s Walk underway

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, and preparations for Ennis’ Walk to End Alzheimer’s are underway with the event coming up on September 22. But how are these fights to end this cause applicable to Ennis? In the United States, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth leading cause of death and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. After chatting with Haley Hanson and Saundra Townley from the Alzheimer’s Association Dallas and Northeast Texas Chapter, the urgency for fighting this awful disease is apparent and it’s a big reason as to why the upcoming Alzheimer’s walk is worth talking about. The walk last year nearly doubled its set goals, raising over $50,000 with overwhelming community support. This year, they plan to raise $65,000 and have 700 participants.
