Police investigating shooting death

Police are investigating a shooting death in the Ennis Housing Authority neighborhood near the 200

block of Arnold Street Thursday. As of Friday morning, Ennis police were handling the investigation as

an accidental discharge of a handgun.

According to Ennis PD spokesman Lt. Mike Hopson, Justice of the Peace Bill Woody identified the

victim as Doyle Cook, born in 1941, and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators said the handgun was found at the scene. As of late Thursday, the gun was undergoing

forensic testing.
