Polka Parade champs prep for a repeat

For Aline and Jimmy Whatley winning has become a tradition in the National Polka Festival Parade.

For the past eight years, the Firehouse Grill owners have built award-winning floats that entertain. For seven of those years, the couple has walked away with the first place crown in the parade.

“We like doing it as a way to give back to the community,” Aline said Friday.

The couple also does it for the pride of winning.

Jimmy and Aline take pride in their floats, and a lot goes into the process it takes to build them.

“I start thinking about it the day the Polka Festival ends,” Aline said. “I brainstorm what we’re going to do, and then when they come out with a theme in January, that’s when we start.”
