Phil Bankerphil@ennisdailynews.com

A young couple from West took the Polka King and Queen crowns Friday night at the KJT Auditorium.

Gary Greener and Kara Walker of West won the 2014 Polka King and Queen contest, appearing in Saturday morning’s parade and will continue to make several appearances over the next year.

Walker, a 2008 graduate of Ennis High School and granddaughter of Jerry and Patsy Zmolik, said she met Greener at a previous National Polka Festival.

“We just love the music and enjoy dancing to it,” Walker said. “I’ve grown up with it my whole life, he’s grown up with it his whole love, we just stuck with it throughout the years.”
