Ranch caretaker: Shooting happened on my property

By Justin Tubbs

A horse training facility northwest of Bardwell was the location of an alleged Saturday shooting incident that took the life of a 36-year-old man, according to the facility’s caretaker.

He said there was a group of three black men and a black woman who were at the facility Saturday to watch horse races.

“They were stealing. What they were stealing, I don’t know, but they were stealing, and it happened right here,” Ricardo Hernandez, the caretaker of the ranch, said, standing at the ranch’s front gate on Tuesday.

He went on to explain that he believed the man was killed or injured near a tree by the front gate of the ranch. He wasn’t sure how the man was killed but confirmed that the initial phone call to police labeled the event as a shooting.
