Defense throttles Hornets in 52-18 win – Ennis wins fifth time in last six games

Ennis rolled to an easier than expected 52-18 basketball drubbing of Class 4A Palestine at home on Friday. The triumph was the fifth win in six tries as the Lady Lions continue to show signs of overcoming a Picasso-like start. Parts of a winning team have been on the table since the start, but getting them in the right place and playing cohesively has been a struggle. Ennis got off to a 3-1 start in November, then slid to 4-9 when key players were misfiring shots and the defense failed to pick up the slack. That has begun to change and defensive intensity has proven to fuel an offense that too often settles for the long ball. Palestine, 6-6, kept things moderately close before the Lady Lions pulled out to a 17-6 second quarter lead. Ennis led 7-6 when Tydra Dickerson blocked a shot. A moment later Audrey Beakley fed Tyquanna Ross for a three-ball on the right wing to ignite a wave of maroon scoring. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
