Dr. D retiring at Avalon after 25 years – Appreciation dinner slated for May 18

Dr. David Del Bosque has been principal and superintendent at both St. John’s in Ennis and Avalon. Longtime principal and school superintendent Dr. David Del Bosque is in his final days as head of schools at Avalon. Having announced his retirement for end of the spring, the beloved “Dr. D,” as he is affectionately known, will be honored in a special ceremony on Saturday, May 18. The public is invited. The retirement party, which includes a meal, will take place in the restored, 70-year old J.P. Griffith Gym, which is named in tribute to Griffith, who served as superintendent from 1925-1961. “It has been a wonderful time here,” said Del Bosque on Wednesday. The native of Alice, Texas has been at Avalon for 25 years, the last 17 as superintendent. Prior to his leadership stint in the small town just south of Ennis, he served as principal at St. John’s from 1984-1994. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
