Every time that flag’s unfurled: The story behind the Ennis football black flag

Inspiration can spring from a myriad of sources. During a speech to the football team by longtime Ennis assistant coach Steve Marrow, an idea was fostered in the heart of one of those players.
It led to the creation of the black flag that leads the team onto the gridiron on Fridays.
“It was a speech given to the kids by Coach Marrow that gave me the idea,” said Eric Rider, who is now the head athletic trainer at EHS. “His message of going to battle led me to think of using a black flag as a battle flag.”
