Sheriff’s Explorers get to taste career

Ellis County Sheriff’s Explorers Tyler Bonner and Tyler Champagne perform during an active shooter role-playing exercise at the TLEEAA State Competition in 2011. Explorers were charged with containing the shooter and ending the threat in the exercise. The Ellis County team won first place at that competition.

The advisor for the Ellis County Sheriff’s Explorers hopes to stir interest in the program in the eastern part of the county.

Lt. Matt Murrey of the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office oversees the group of young Ellis County citizens — students aged 14-21 with the urge to learn.
