Sheriff opposes jail plan

Phil Banker, phil@ennisdailynews.com

The Ellis County Commissioners Court will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday to further discuss plans for jail privatization, but Ellis County Sheriff Johnny Brown said he’s not on board.

Brown said Monday he opposes handing management responsibilities to a private company, saying that was never his intention. “I’ve looked at this and I just don’t think it’s good for Ellis County,” Brown said.

“My goal was to merely house ICE detainees. The judge has taken off with this. This is her deal, not my deal.”
