TxDOT offers travel info outlets

EDN News Service, editor@ennisdailynews.com

DALLAS/FORT WORTH — The National Weather Service has forecast severe winter weather in the North Texas area, which may result in hazardous driving conditions. Throughout the rest of the week and through the weekend, the Texas Department of Transportation will monitor the weather and, if necessary, treat many of the bridges in the DFW area with anti-icing materials.

The Dallas and Fort Worth Districts have stockpiles of chat, a sand and salt mixture, and salt based de-icers prepared for winter conditions. TxDOT uses anti-icing materials during winter weather events at bridges, ramps and overpasses before and after freezing conditions occur.

Motorists should exercise caution and watch for patches of ice, especially in shady areas or on shoulders. TxDOT crews will continue monitoring the highways until the freezing conditions are over. Motorists can obtain travel information by calling 1-800-452-9292 or by visiting www.drivetexas.org.
