West Nile prevalence down this season

Surveillance and spraying for mosquitoes in Ennis could be behind it, or natural cycles in the West Nile virus could be the cause, but Ennis has seen no cases of the illness or positive mosquito tests since testing began in April.

Beginning April 1, Ennis activated traps and has netted thousands of mosquitoes that have been sent on to the Texas Department of State Health Services for testing with no confirmed positives, said Ennis City Manager Steve Howerton.
