Workforce crisis hits Ennis, Waxahachie nursing homes
The 41 nursing homes in Waxahachie and Ennis and surrounding counties are struggling with a workforce crisis. Turnover for the nurses who care for our parents and grandparents needing long term care is more than 90 percent a year. For certified nurse assistants and licensed vocational nurses — the back bone of any nursing home — it’s more than 97 percent. The Texas Health Care Association has released a report detailing the extent of this quiet crisis in nursing homes and are diligently working to shine a light on it so lawmakers in Austin will take notice.
