Ann Benton Thomas

1990Ann H2Ann Benton Thomas, devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother passed away in The Villages, Florida on January 1, 2014 at the age of 71. Ann is predeceased by her parents Darrell R. and Beulah M. (Sanderlin) Hightower, and her brother Michael D. Hightower. Ann is survived by her loving husband Jack Thomas of nineteen years.and by her children: daughter Stacy and her husband Will Robinson of Brownsboro, TX; son Lance J. Benton and his wife Sandy of Ft. Worth, TX; and stepchildren Angela Thomas and Andrew Thomas of Cincinnati, OH. She was “Mimi” to grandchildren Kaleigh and Keller Kerns, Katie Benton, and Claire and SamThomas. Born September 25, 1942 in Hooks, Texas, Ann was the daughter of Darrell and Beulah Hightower. She lived in Galveston, TX with her mother while her father served active duty in World War II. In the late 1940’s the Hightower family moved to Ennis where she attended school and graduated from Ennis High School in 1961. She married Jack Benton shortly after graduation and lived in Corsicana, Roswell, NM, Rosebud, and Malakoff, TX. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Biology and Secondary Education from the University of Texas at Tyler and taught classes at DeSoto High School before joining the real estate business in the late 1980’s. She married Jack Thomas in 1995. After residence in DeSoto and Las Colinas, she and her husband retired in Florida. Ann was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Belleview, FL and a member of The Villages Clown Alley #179 where she was known as “Posey.” A memorial service of remembrance and celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 18, 11:00 AM at St. Anne Episcopal Church, 1700 N. Westmoreland Road, DeSoto, TX 75115 with Rev. Oliver Butler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Anne Episcopal Church in DeSoto, St Mary’s Episcopal Church in Florida or a charity of choice. Condolences for the family may be offered online at www.beyersfuneralhome.com. A memorial service was also held at the Lady Lake Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home In the Villages, FL on Sunday, January 5, 2014 with Rev. Tim Nunez officiating.
