Evelyn Thurin 1926 – 2019

Evelyn Thurin returned to her heavenly home on January 13, 2019. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her passing at home with her family close by. Evelyn was born in Frost, Texas on January 21, 1926 to Mary and Jesse Fuller where she continued to live and attend school before moving to Dallas in 1944. She married Tom Thurin on February 23, 1945 in Dallas where he was stationed with the U.S. Army Air Corp. Upon his discharge in 1946, Evelyn followed the adventurous heart of her husband and moved with him to Southern California where she fell in love with mother nature and began her lifelong passion for gardening. They made their home in Altadena where she raised their three children with patience, discipline and humility. Evelyn taught her children that life is a gift, to appreciate nature, and to love all people. The family later moved to Bishop, then Gardnerville, Nevada, and later to Kingston, Jamaica and eventually back to California. Upon Tom’s retirement, they settled in Yuma, Arizona until failing health brought them to Dallas to be close to their daughter. Evelyn (Grandma Jessie) is dearly missed by her large and loving family as well as her many friends who now celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. She is survived by her son, Mike Thurin and his wife, Pat; her daughter Susan and her husband Bernie Prachyl; grandchildren, Chris Thurin, Michele Herriman, Nick Espedal, David Espedal, Kim Burgener, and Mary Hickman; her great grandchildren, Sierra Thurin, Mason Espedal, Eli and Teagan Espedal, Jack and Kate Hickman, Christian and Dean Burgener, Kayla Kramer, Cheyenne Newman and Lane Herriman; and great great granddaughter Kensley Kramer. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Tom, her son Denny, her parents and her brother Wilroy Fuller. The family is abiding by Evelyn’s wishes for no funeral arrangements but will instead be spreading her ashes in the high Sierras.
