George F. Grammer

1889936George F. Grammer, 87, passed away in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, December 30, 2012. George was born in Bardwell, Texas on June 12, 1925 to George and Bessie Grammer, Sr. and was the eldest of four children. He grew up in Bardwell, and graduated from Bardwell High School. He met his beautiful bride Mildred Ruth Hearron on the school bus one morning. As he put it, he was just minding his own business when she sat down next to him and proceeded to strike up a conversation. As she put it, she had noticed his big blue eyes and his “handsomeness” for weeks, and he had not made a concerted effort to talk to her, so she knew she had to make the first move or it was never going to happen! On October 15, 1944 he married the love of his life, Mildred Ruth Hearron, and the rest is history. They made their home in Bardwell before moving to Ennis in 1992. George was a jack of many trades including, owning Grammer Real Estate; owning Bardwell Co-Op Gin and was a tax accountant. He served as Mayor of Bardwell, as president of the Elm Branch Cemetery Association, was founder of the Bardwell Water Supply Company, and was president of the Bardwell Community Center. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Avalon. He is survived by one daughter, Dee Grammer Holley of Dallas; brother, Chester Wayne Grammer of Cedar Creek and sister, Willie Mae Deittrick of Austin; grandchildren: Jamie Holley, Lindsey and her husband, Ryan Clemmensen. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred Grammer on June 27, 2001 and one sister, Pauline Simmons. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. Interment will follow in the Elm Branch Cemetery of Bardwell under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
