Gwendolyn “Gwen” M. Baker

Gwendolyn “Gwen” M. Baker born on July 27, 1930 in Wichita Falls, TX passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at the age of 86.

Gwen spent her early years in Ennis, TX with parents, Archie and Ann Evans. In 1947, she graduated from Ennis High School, attended school in Dallas and later was employed with Oil Well Supply Co. She met and married the love of her life, Dub Baker in 1950.

In 1958, she, Dub and the boys moved to San Antonio. Gwen had a passion for classical music, art, cooking, playing a great game of tennis and camping. She was best known for being a “Super-Class Mom”. Once she and Dub retired, they took pleasure in traveling with friends in their R.V’s. She was a long time member (1958) of Castle Hills First Baptist Church in San Antonio.

She is preceded in death by her parents and niece, Julie Greer and is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Dub; two sons: Mike Baker and wife, Cindy; Steve Baker and wife, Stacy; four grandchildren whom she loved very much, Brian, Breanne, Molly and Morgan. They and their friends affectionately called her “Honey Mom”. Gwen is also survived by one sister, Nancy McCormack and her husband, Chuck, of Waxahachie; and three nieces, Alison, Callie and Kate.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to “Just Like Home Care” and Compassus Hospice for their loving care.

Visitation will be from 5:30pm – 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Service will be in the Porter Loring Reflection Room on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 9:00am.

Gwen will lie in state on Thursday, March 16 beginning at 6:30pm to 7:30pm at J.E. Keever Mortuary, 408 North Dallas Street in Ennis, TX.

On Friday, March 17, 2017 at 10:00am a Graveside Service will be held at Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis, TX.
