Helen Prachyl Slovak


Helen Prachyl Slovak, age 82, went to the arms of her Lord on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Legend Oaks Nursing Home in Ennis. She was born on April 17, 1936, in Boyce, Texas, to Leo and Julie (Vrana) Prachyl. On April 27, 1954, Helen married the love of her life, Raymond Slovak. They were married for 58 years until his passing in August of 2012. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, KJZT and Golden Crusaders. Helen loved cooking, watching Wheel of Fortune, playing card games and dominoes. Most of all, Helen loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen is survived by her sons, James and wife Theresa Slovak, Gregory and wife Susan Slovak, Kevin and wife Karen Slovak; grandchildren, Derek and wife Kelley Slovak, Lindsay and husband Brendan Varley, Kacie and husband Brian Zhanel, Morgan and husband Corey Hickerson, Kyle and wife Leslie Slovak; Jason Gould, grandson-in-law; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Reese Zhanel, Jaxon and Reagan Gould, Emily, Ally, and Taylor Varley, Connor and Carter Slovak, Brighton and Channing Hickerson, and Riley Slovak; sister, Julie and husband Wesley Smid; sister-in-law, Mary Prachyl. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Julie Prachyl; husband, Raymond Slovak; granddaughters, Rachel Slovak and Meagan Slovak Gould; great-granddaughter Brooklynn Zhanel; brother, Anthony Prachyl; sister and brother-in-law Agnes and Frank Taraba; brother and sister-in-law Stanley and Jean Prachyl. Visitation for family and friends was held Monday, March 11, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Ennis. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Ennis with Father John Dick as Celebrant. Pallbearers were Kyle Slovak, Brian Zhanel, Corey Hickerson, Jason Gould, Brendan Varley and Ronnie Zmolek. Honorary pallbearer was Derek Slovak. Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Ennis.
