Joe W. Spaniel

Joseph W. Spaniel, 82, died peacefully after a lengthy illness surrounded by his family in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.
Joe was born in Ennis, Texas on December 19, 1931 to Joseph L. and Agnes (Vrana) Spaniel. He graduated from St. John High School after which time he served as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded two Bronze Service Stars.
On August 3, 1957 he married Mary Jane Lenart of West, Texas and they made their home in Dallas and later settled in Waxahachie.
Joe was employed for thirty-five years as an aircraft mechanic with Braniff International Airways and Dalfort Aviation Service. He also engaged in farming throughout his life.
He was a member of the KJT, VFW, American Legion and was a life-long member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.
Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; five sons, four daughters and their spouses: Cindy and Raymond Honza, Karen and Bill Cooke, David and Rhonda Spaniel, Thomas Spaniel, Douglas Spaniel, Gary and Carol Spaniel, Gregory and Ruth Spaniel, Pamela and Kris Isaacks and Joyce and Richard Spaniel; twenty grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six sisters: Agnes Harper, Ella Spaniel, Justina Kutil, Georgia Polak and husband, John, Adele Rosipal and husband, Herb and Dorothy Petru and husband, Ed and two sisters-in-law: Helen Rauschuber and Carrie Dudik.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law, Jerry Kutil, C.L. Harper, Tony Lenart, Raymond Rauschuber, Bill Dudik, and sister-in-law, Irene Lenart.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Joseph Cemetery Association.
