Mary Lou Ables 1931 – 2019

Mary Lou Ables, 87, went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 30, 2018 in Ennis, Texas. Mary Lou was born in Crowley, Texas on April 11, 1931 to Willard and Katie Lee (Patton) Wilson. Mary Lou was raised by her uncle and aunt Clyde and Lillie Freeman. She grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1949. She went on to the University of North Texas to receive her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education. On June 6, 1970 she married Billy M. Ables and they made their home in Ennis. Mary Lou was a beloved educator for twenty-eight years beginning in Odessa ISD and for Palmer and Ennis ISD’s retiring in 1981. She was the Ellis County Librarian. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Ennis Garden Club, the 20th Century Club, she had served as president of the Ellis County Teacher Association and had been a First Lady of Ennis. She was well known for her dynamic public speaking. She will be greatly missed by all those lives she touched here on earth but her memory will be cherished most by her family including her husband of forty-eight years, Billy M. Ables; step son, Steve Ables and wife, Lynda; three grandchildren: four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family, friends and former students. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved aunt and uncle, two brothers and two sisters. Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. A Celebration of her life was held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rev. Todd Gray officiating. Interment followed in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
