Mary Nell Swearengin

Mary Nell Swearengin, 85, passed away in Ennis, Texas, on Friday, April 15, 2016.

Mary Nell was born in Bonham, Texas, on May 14, 1930, to Walter Robert and Zena Mae (Essary) Farris. She grew up in Bonham and graduated from N.R. Crozier Tech High School of Dallas in 1947. On April 25, 1953, she married Billie Frank Swearengin and they made their home in Dallas before moving to Ennis in 1970.

She worked as an operator and operator supervisor for over thirty-seven years with Southwestern Bell. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Ennis and the Southwestern Bell Pioneers.

Mary was dearly loved by her family and many friends. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mary’s favorite prayer was The Lord’s Prayer. She loved her family and gave endlessly of herself, always thinking of others, always giving. Mary had a delightful personality and loved to laugh. She was a “social butterfly”, and always had a beautiful smile for everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bird watching, wildflowers and music. She loved God and reading her bible.

She is survived by her husband of almost sixty-three years, B.F. Swearengin, Sr.; sons: Billie Swearengin Jr. and wife, Jannan and John Swearengin and wife, Barbara; daughter, Gwenda Vinkler and husband, Glenn; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild due in October and two brothers, Tommy Farris and Richard Farris.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Farris and sisters-in-law, Janet Farris and Jeannie Farris.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, beginning at 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

A Celebration of her life will take place on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. Pallbearers will be Dillon Swearengin, Billie Swearengin, Jr., John Swearengin, Glenn Vinkler, Sam Smith and Jonathan Skinner. Interment will follow in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E.
