Melvin Dewie Chambers


Melvin Dewie Chambers passed from this life January 26, 2018 at Legend Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Ennis. He was born August 28, 1928, in Nocona, Texas to Walter and Evalee (Powers) Chambers. Melvin married Elizabeth Hope Chambers on February 7, 1947, and was married 69 years until her passing in 2017. Melvin worked in sales for the Straus Frank Co., his territory included all of north Texas and southern Oklahoma, he retired at age 75.  He was a long-time resident of Sherman, Texas and moved to Ennis nine years ago, to be with his daughter. Left to cherish his memories are his son, James Chambers and wife Tracey of Cooper, Texas; daughter, Pam Gillentine of Ennis, Texas; nine grandchildren, Wendi Chambers, Robert and Teresa Gillentine, Branden Chambers, Brandon, James, Christian, and Elizabeth Chambers, and Jacque Butler; nine great grandchildren, Kailey Gillentine, Sydney, Nicholas and Jayce Jackson, Ashlynn and Aubrey Butler, Charley, Jane and Robbie Gillentine, and Rebekah Chambers and numerous nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Evalee Chambers; loving wife, Hope Chambers; daughter, Rebecca Chambers; brothers; Glen Chambers and W.L. Chambers; sister, Velda Miles and son-in-law, Randy Gillentine. A special thanks to the staff of Legend Oaks Rehabilitation. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Parkinson’s research in Melvin’s name. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Ennis with Minister Matthew Butler from First Baptist Bikers Church of Texarkana, Texas officiating.
