Rose Fuqua Barkley

Rose Fuqua Barkley, 94, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, July 27, 2015.

Rose was born on October 23, 1920, to Thomas B. and Elsie Marie (Rinehart) Fuqua in Texarkana, Texas. She grew up in Dallas and Waxahachie, Texas. She graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1937. On October 5, 1940, she married Henry Barkley and she has lived in Ennis since 1937.

Rose worked for Citizens National Bank for eighteen years until her retirement. She also wrote for the Ennis Daily News the “On the Avenue” column. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ennis. She enjoyed bridge and golf. She served her community as a “Pink Lady” for the Ennis Regional Medical Center.

Rose was an exceptional lady and those who had the opportunity to know her were blessed. Her memory will be cherished most by her family she leaves behind including her daughters: Barbara Barkley and Pat Reel and husband Mike; three grandchildren: Virginia Davis and husband Marc, Elizabeth Stovall and husband Jim, and Ian Ballard; and two great-grandchildren: Sam and Sara.

She goes home to meet her parents and her husband, Henry Barkley.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

A Celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, July 30, at 11 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. Steve Holston officiating. A private burial will be held in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
