Sybil Allene Marks Kallus

2288059Sybil Allene Marks Kallus, 98, passed away at Legend Oaks Healthcare – Ennis on Thursday, October 17, 2013. Sybil was born in Prescott, Arkansas on July 31, 1915 to James Raines and Ola Adelle (Myers) Marks. She grew up in various railroad towns in Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri and graduated from Ennis High School in 1933. On November 26, 1936 she married Raymond Franklin Kallus and they lived their entire married lives in Ennis, Texas. Sybil started her college work at age 44 while raising her 4 children with her husband. She completed her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees at East Texas State University by the time she was 49 years old. She began teaching for Ennis ISD that year as the only Special Education teacher and later became a 4th grade teacher at Sam Houston Elementary School, retiring at age 70. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ennis. She is survived by her son, Ray Kallus, Jr. of Temple, Texas; and two daughters: Kay and her husband Guy Weathers of Ennis, and Sally and her husband Loyd Medlin of Ennis; one grandson, David and his wife Bethany Bland of Ennis. She is also survived by three nieces and their families: Nancy Morgan of Dallas, Patsy Hodge of Richardson, and Betty Honza of Ennis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, her husband Raymond Kallus in 1972, and her daughter, Suzy Bland in 2008. To honor her wishes, a private service will be held by the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Ennis, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are by J.E.
