City earns big honor
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Ennis by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its most recent comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment. Ennis is among only 1,748 municipalities across the United States to receive the award for 2006.
The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" effort to clearly communicate the City’s financial story and motivate interested persons and users groups to read the CAFR.
City Manager Steve Howerton said that the award is an outstanding tribute to the City’s accounting staff and to the City’s auditors.
“The City of Ennis is proud to receive this prestigious award for the 24th time since 1982 and is committed to maintaining high standards for government finance and disclosure,” Howerton said.
