Domestic violence arrest made by EPD

An Ennis man is in custody after allegedly punching his common law wife in the shoulder Monday night.
Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson said at 7:14 p.m. Officer Kevin King was dispatched to the 1700 block of Cardinal St. in reference to a domestic disturbance taking place. King spoke with the complainant, who stated the suspect and her were having a verbal argument regarding their living arrangements when things escalated leading to the suspect hitting her once in the shoulder with a closed fist. King reported observing a red mark on the victim’s right shoulder.
The man was taken into custody in order to prevent further violence and transported to Ennis police department without further incident.
Gerald Bennett, 19, of Ennis was charged with assault family violence.
