Do yourself and your pets a favor

The problems associated with unwanted pets are not limited to just pet owners. Everybody is affected on some level and that’s why it’s so important to make sure that you spay or neuter your pet.
Today Ennis City Animal Control marks the 14th Annual Spay Day USA by encouraging dog and cat owners to spay or neuter their pets. We hope that all of our readers who own pets will make it a point to take this important step.
Unwanted animals can become burdens in many ways. Witness the recent controversy surrounding the Ellis County Commissioners Court’s struggles to enact an animal control ordinance that does not unduly burden taxpayers. When unwanted dogs or cats are abandoned out in the country, they not only cause problems for homeowners, they also get sick, starve and die. It doesn’t have to happen.
And it isn’t just a rural problem. Feral animals live in the city limits as well and the health and safety problems they pose there are just as serious.
We will never completely eliminate the problem of unwanted pets, but if responsible pet owners would take the important step of spaying or neutering their animals, it would go a long way toward easing the burden.
Please make an appointment today to spay or neuter your pet if you haven’t already done so. You, your pet and your community will be grateful and better off in the long run.
