Hooray for Ennis: History book on way

Ennis is ready for her close-up.
Ok, not on screen but in print! Arcadia Publishing is soon to be releasing Images of America: Ennis, a pictorial history of the Bluebonnet City from its inception in 1872 to today. The book is the first devoted exclusively to the history of Ennis to be published in over 100 years; a slim volume was printed pre-1910 but due to its rarity few have ever read it.
The Ennis Daily News is proud to promote Arcadia’s new book, proceeds from the sale of which will benefit the Ennis Heritage Society and the Ennis Czech Heritage Society.
The picture on today’s front page is one of over 180 images included in the book that’s been written and compiled by Laurie J. Wilson and Peggy Holland Rankin.
These women have drawn from numerous local sources for the photographs and information they have amassed, from the Ennis Public Library Historic Archives to the City of Ennis to individual private collectors.
We say ‘Bravo’ to the authors, the publisher and the beneficiaries of what promises to be a fascinating work –– valuable to us now as well as to future generations, not only as a history of the city but of the diverse people who have lived here for over 135 years. All cultures that have prospered in Ennis are spotlighted –– Czechoslovakian, African-American, Hispanic. Even the early Jewish community here is remembered.
Look for a special feature on this book in Sunday’s edition of the Ennis Daily News.
