County crash leaves two dead

A vehicle carrying two 17-year-olds was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban on the driver’s side door while turning on to FM 879 Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of both occupants.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Ebenezer Road and FM 879, a 2000 Nissan Sentra driven by Charlene Bartolic of Palmer briefly stopped at the stop sign of Ebenezer Road before making a left turn on to FM 879. The driver of the suburban, Jason Charles Webster, 33, of Katy, Texas, told Texas Department of Public Safety officers Bartolic looked to the right before pulling across his lane of traffic but never looked left for oncoming traffic. Bartolic’s vehicle was hit on the driver’s side door, slid across the roadway and stopped when it struck a telephone pole.
Justice of the Peace Bill Woody pronounced Bartolic and passenger Chance Adam Crawford, both of Palmer, dead at the scene about an hour after the accident was reported.
Webster and the four other occupants of the suburban were all treated for injuries suffered during the accident, which included multiple contusions, abrasions and seatbelt injuries. The passengers in the suburban included Jason Webster’s wife Laney, 30, and their 3-year-old son, all of Katy, Joe Charles Webster, 60, and Patricia Webster 59, both of Ennis.
The Texas DPS accident report indicated everyone involved in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.
