Visitor’s Bureau seeks bluebonnet volunteers

Anyone feeling the need to entertain a few tourists or help spread some Ennis hospitality during bluebonnet season may be just what the employees of the Ennis Convention and Visitor’s Bureau need to help see them through a very busy time of year.
The ECVB, which on average sees between 200 to 500 people a day during the month of April, has two full-time employees that greet tourists to the bluebonnet city and send them on their way to catch the best look of the blue blooms. While both ladies love what they do, tourism director Gina Rokas admits that sometimes the office gets a little crazy with so many visitors.
“Bluebonnet time of year is hectic because of all the people in town wanting to get a look at the trails and the flowers, so we do our best to spend time with each person that comes our way,” she said. “However, we don’t want them to have to wait while we give maps and directions to people ahead of them, so we are looking for volunteers to help make the process go a little faster for people wanting to see the flowers. We normally have a host of volunteers every year and we couldn’t do it without them, so we are hoping to get more people to participate this year.”
Beginning on Wednesday, the ECVB will be open every day of the month, with the exception of April 12, which is Easter Sunday. Hours of operation will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sundays. Rokas said one of the perks to being open every day is that it affords many opportunities to meet people from all walks of life that come to Ennis specifically for the bluebonnets.
