Qualls poised to lead EISD

The challenges Barbara Qualls has faced in her 22-year career in education make her confident she is ready for her next opportunity — becoming superintendent of Ennis ISD.
Wednesday, Qualls was named as Ennis ISD’s lone finalist for superintendent. She currently serves as superintendent for Lago Vista ISD, which is near Austin. Prior to holding this position, she was superintendent of Grapeland ISD. She has had a total of 10 years experience in leading school districts.
“I think I bring a wide expanse of experience to the job,” she said. “I am incredibly pleased and honored. This is a tremendous opportunity and I am so grateful for it.”
Qualls said she has experience in dealing with both low-income and wealthier school districts. The Ennis ISD school board was impressed with Qualls’ school financial expertise, said Mack Boyd, school board president.
“At each of the two districts where I have served as superintendent, there have been unique challenges,” Qualls said. “Many of them have to do with school finance.”
To Qualls, these are not obstacles, but opportunities
