Ennis back on Texas Football radar in ’09

Lions ranked No. 13 in 4A state poll
After four long years, the Ennis Lions can be found in the Texas Football 4A Top 25 preseason rankings once again.
On the heels of Graham Harrell’s departure, Ennis was ranked No. 1 in Dave Campbell’s 2004 Texas Football magazine and the Lions went on to win state. Ennis was ranked No. 9 in the 2005 edition of the magazine, but was nowhere to be found for the next three years. For 2009, the Lions must’ve garnered some respect on the heels of their 11-2 campaign as Ennis is ranked No. 13 among 4A ballclubs.
Looking back
Before delving into everything concerning the 2009 season, there are some points of local interest to be found by closing the book on how 2008 played out. Regarding positive win swings from the 2007 season, Denton Guyer (plus-11) and Denison (plus-8) were the most improved ballclubs in 4A.
Ennis’ district foe Hewitt Midway was one of four teams to finish with a plus-seven swing, while last year’s playoff opponent Rockwall-Heath joined five other squads with a plus-six swing. At the other end of the spectrum, Little Elm joined a couple of Houston-area teams with the largest negative win swing at minus-seven. Red Oak was among a group of five teams with a win swing at minus-six.
