Ennis looks for lake cost relief

Ennis is staying with its efforts to fight off a $1.3 million hike in next year’s obligation for maintenance at Lake Bardwell.
The city has appealed to legislators and government officials to intervene in the situation, which is mirrored in other communities that work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on water projects. City officials will meet with the Corps and representatives of the Trinity River Authority today.
Ennis faces a boost from last year’s contribution from $483,000 to $1.73 million, with neighbor Waxahachie under a boost from $410,000 to $1.43 million, in plans for increased Corps work born by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
