County sets up lake patrol

The Ellis County Commissioners’ Court voted Monday to accept the donation of a boat, trailer and motor from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to be used by the Sheriff’s Department in patrolling Lake Bardwell.
Previously, the department had to either call the Army Corps of Engineers or the Game Warden in the event of an emergency on the lake, because the Sheriff’s Department did not have a boat, said Captain Chuck Laubach of the Sheriff’s Department. About two or three times a year, an emergency situation occurs on the lake, and with the boat, the Sheriff’s Department will be able to quickly respond. The department will use it to patrol the lake on major holidays when many people are out on the lake, he said.
The court also voted to acquire exempt license plates for the boat trailer.
