Take a swing at cancer

Family golf tournament set Sept. 19-20
The Boon family is keeping up its tradition of holding a charity golf tournament to raise money for cancer research with the 11th Annual Cancer Benefit Golf Tournament.
The yearly event was started as a tribute to Ernest Kyle “E.K” Boon, brother of Ennis’ Jimmy Boon, Hazel Boon Tidwell and Marilyn Boon Lindsteadt. E.K. Boon died in 1996 after being diagnosed with cancer four years earlier due to the effects of inhaling Agent Orange, a toxin used to defoliate trees during the Vietnam War. E.K. Boon served as a Green Beret during the war and was exposed to the chemical while stationed in the jungle.
