EISD phones go digital

With Ennis ISD’s adoption of a Voice Over IP phone system, many EISD phone numbers have changed in the past few weeks with the rest will change by Oct. 1.
The VOIP system operates on the same network as the district’s computers, but still places and receives calls through the phone company, said Scott Short, director of technology for EISD. The district decided to switch to the VOIP system because it saves money, is more reliable and has more functions than a traditional phone system, he said.

The system was put in place at the new Ennis Junior High School when it was built last year, and was also put in place at Ennis High School last year when an addition to the school was built. The phone system has worked well at both campuses, Short said.

“It has proven very reliable for us,” he said.
