Engines roar at Motorplex

A little rain was not enough to shut down the National Hot Rod Association’s first day of qualifying action in the Fall Nationals event at the Texas Motorplex.
Racers and their supporters flocked to the track Thursday morning, bringing their more modern hot rods, dragsters and souped-up classics to the all-concrete strip. Food vendors, commercial exhibitors and track workers bustled as the morning was dotted with intermittent light rain.

Races were postponed while rain hit the track — the announcer’s voice over loudspeakers at the Motorplex explained even a few drops of water on a track can be untenable for racing cars with no treads on their wheels. Races continued throughout the day, however.
