5A MacArthur starts strong to top Lion hoops

Ennis certainly hasn’t ducked any difficult opponents in its preparation for district play.
On Friday, Lion basketball (6-10) traveled to face 5A Irving MacArthur and standout Ricky Scott, who has committed to play for Arkansas. While the Lions won the second half, MacArthur rode a 40-24 halftime lead to a 62-52 victory.

“MacArthur is a good 5A team we faced on the road and Scott scored 27 points, but he hit some tough shots and attacked the basket really well,” said coach Jerry Mason.

“We had a lead in the first quarter, but some turnovers allowed them to go on a run. We had a lot of first-half turnovers they converted into points and that was the difference.

“We played hard, but they shot the ball better. We still have to improve on our outside shooting. We didn’t play bad — just not well enough to win.”
