Spotlight on … Ennis Czech Boys

The Ennis Czech Boys are becoming men.
Jared Prachyl, Jon Marek, and Corey Mikula were all in high school when they started the band almost six years ago, and now they are all in their early 20s with full-time jobs. From these original three, the band has grown to eight members after the inclusions of Trey Sylester, Jason Valek, Zeke Martinez, Jerry Petter, and Frank Vrla III.

Surrounded by scattered sheets of lyrics on the ground, Prachyl, Valek, and Martinez held an impromptu practice on the SPJST stage this week — a jam session.

“It’s harder now to get everyone together for practices because one band member lives in Commerce, one lives in Austin, and some of the guys work at night, but we try and learn new stuff to integrate into the band,” Prachyl said.

They take time from strumming their guitars to discuss not only how the band has grown, but also how their sound has.
