Harrell to step aside

On Wednesday, Ennis ISD announced that Sam Harrell — head football coach since 1994 — will be reassigned to director of the district’s Career and Technology Education program on a temporary basis beginning in August.
This summer, Harrell, who has multiple sclerosis, will be traveling to Costa Rica for treatment. He will take over the CATE directorship from Dick Roberts, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

Steve Marrow — who coached with Harrell at Big Lake and also transitioned to Ennis in 1994 — will become interim head coach beginning on June 5 and direct Lion football through the 2010 season. He will retain his cornerback and special teams coaching duties.
