Music brings native home

Ennis native Charles “Sugarboy” Myers is coming back home Friday when his group, Da Unit Band, will serve as the house band for the music festival, “Music Under The Son,” sponsored by Unity in the Community of Ennis.
Myers, a drummer, has been with Da Unit Band for about two years, although his interest in music started long before that. He said his parents, Levertha and the late Charlie Myers of Ennis, are to thank for encouraging his passion for music, even back in high school.

“They were behind me 100 percent and really helpful with music,” Myers said. “They didn’t push me, they saw (talent) in me and they did what they had to do to help me pursue it.”
