Rice recovery begins

The city of Rice is making plans for repairs after a category EF-2 tornado barreled through the community Sunday, leaving substantial damage.
Navarro County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Mike Cox said some time between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. the tornado struck and severe damage was sustained.

The National Weather Service on Monday classified the Rice tornado as an EF-2 with estimated wind speeds of up to 135 mph. The weather service said the twister carved a seven-mile damage path 100 yards wide.
