Week 9: Battle of 287

Regardless of season records, where the game is played, or just about any other considerations, the Battle of 287 is always a big deal in Ellis County.
The Ennis Lions (1-7, 0-6) hit the road tonight to tangle with the Waxahachie Indians (4-4, 3-3) in the 2010 version of the matchup. While the Lions are building for the future with a bevy of young players gaining varsity experience, the Indians came up with a huge 23-6 victory over Lancaster last week to seize control of their playoff destiny.

“If Waxahachie wins out now, they’ll be in,” said coach Steve Marrow. “So that was obviously a big one for them against Lancaster, especially coming off that loss to West Mesquite where they gave up so many points (63). Now they’re right in the thick of it.”
