Shop locally while you hunt gifts

Today, in the perspective of a good many shoppers and retailers alike, begins the post-Thanksgiving shopping extravaganza that leads into the Christmas season.
While we certainly encourage area residents to get started early on their quest for the perfect gift for their loved ones, friends and colleagues, we want to reinforce most of all that shopping in the local Ennis community should be of paramount importance.

As we’ve seen in recent employment and tax figures released by the state of Texas, the economic situation for Ennis and Ellis County is still in a fairly fragile state, and we’d expect local retail activity to be a key step in the path to climbing out of that rut.

Why is this important for us? We can’t stress enough how direct the link between sales activity in the local community and both jobs and tax support really is. That link funds our schools, it pays for the road work that many areas in the city and county need and it creates the flexibility that makes capital projects like major bond programs possible. That’s just the beginning.

Until that strength is restored, there will undoubtedly be a culture of tight times, cutbacks and uncertainty in local economics. Local governments are continuing to plan conservatively, and now is definitely not the time for free-wheeling plans.

Shopping locally is the biggest way we as individuals can help buttress the jobs and services that are important to those who live in this community.
