Lights show city’s bright side this year

With the next few days of area schoolchildren’s winter break, we recommend parents gather up the family for a holiday tour of the city’s beautiful Christmas light displays before they’re taken down for the year.
Every year, like so many other towns and cities of all sizes in the United States, Ennis puts forward an amazing effort to decorate for the holidays. Not recognizing that effort would be a shame, and not soaking in the beautiful displays that have been put up around town before they’re taken down would be just as much of a letdown.

The annual Lights of Ennis recognitions that go out around Christmas are only half of the story when it comes to the city’s annual lights displays. Harriett Adams, who helps organize this effort each year, has worked with committee members to compile a list of notable homes, where displays make the streets on which they sit light up with holiday cheer. That list is in today’s edition, and we hope you spend the evening tonight with your families touring the city.

To all of you who persevere every year and put up those elaborate light displays — both during the good times and the bad — we want to extend a heartfelt thank you and let you know we appreciate what you’re doing to make Ennis a little brighter each year.

The winners of the Lights contests are certainly deserving of the recognition. We’ll publish everything we get over the next few days honoring those who’ve done their part to make the holidays special for the people who live here because we think it’s the best way we can show how much Ennis loves this time of year and the work that its residents go through to make it special.
